Zusammenfassung

New Public Health unterscheidet sich in wichtigen Dimensionen vom herkömmlichen und individualmedizinischen Umgang mit Gesundheitsrisiken und -problemen: Populationsbezug (gegenüber Individuenbezug), stärkere Beachtung gesellschaftlicher Einflussfaktoren auf Gesundheit/Krankheit und sozial bedingt ungleicher Gesundheitschancen, Verständnis von Gesundheit/Krankheit als geglückte/missglückte Balance von Gesundheitsbelastungen und Gesundheitsressourcen sowie Priorität zugunsten der Primärprävention. AIDS-Prävention und betriebliche Gesundheitsförderung gelten als erfolgreiche Leitbeispiele. Medikalisierung und Ökonomisierung erschweren die zügige Ausweitung einer an New Public Health orientierten Gesundheitspolitik.

Abstract

New public health differs from the way health risks and health problems are conventionally handled. Instead of focused individual attention, emphasis is placed on the population, with more thorough analysis of the social factors influencing health and disease, and the factors responsible for inequality. A better assessment of successful/unsuccessful health management in terms of the health resources available characterises New Public Health along with primary prevention as a priority. AIDS prevention and worksite health promotion are two examples worth following in Germany. However economic and medicalization issues are making speedy introduction of New Public Health into general health policy difficult.
