Zusammenfassung
Bereits in der Antike und im Mittelalter wurden Katheter aus Metall, Holz, Leder und sonstigen Materialien geformt und angewendet (Bloom et al. 1994; Nacey u. Delahunt 1993). Erst die Verfügbarkeit moderner Materialien wie Gummi, Latex, Polyurethran, PVC und Silikon erlaubte die Herstellung flexibler, in der Routine verwendbarer Katheter.
