Zusammenfassung
Die Beschäftigung mit dem Alter(n) hat in allen Epochen der Geschichte stattgefunden. Dies spiegelt sich in Altersbildern wider, wie sie sich in der Literatur, der Malerei und auch in den modernen Informations- und Unterhaltungsmedien darstellen (Höffe 2008). Seit mehr als einem Jahrhundert hat sich die Forschung mit dem Aufspüren sowie der Reflexion und Interpretation solcher Bilder beschäftigt (Ehmer 2008) und damit wesentlich zur Auseinandersetzung wie zum Verständnis des Alterns unter den jeweils herrschenden gesellschaftlichen Verhältnissen beigetragen – sei es aus philosophischer, soziologischer, kunsthistorischer, sprachwissenschaftlicher oder literaturhistorischer Sicht oder auch seit etwa Anfang der 1960er Jahre aus Sicht der Psychologie und der Medien-, Kommunikationsund Werbewissenschaften. Das Verhältnis von Wirklichkeitsgehalt zu Illusionscharakter der medial vermittelten Altersbilder zählt dabei zu den faszinierendsten, aber auch ungelösten Fragen der Forschung.
