Zusammenfassung

Der plötzliche Herztod ist nach wie vor die führende Todesursache in Europa und den USA. Die Inzidenz steigt mit dem Lebensalter und als Hauptursache wird die koronare Herzerkrankung dafür verantwortlich gemacht. Häufig kommt es zunächst zu einer ventrikulären Tachykardie, die in Kammerflimmern degeneriert und letztlich in der Asystolie endet. Wird ein Kreislaufstillstand beobachtet und als solcher erkannt, sind suffiziente Ersthelfermaßnahmen für das Überleben von entscheidender Bedeutung; der Kardiokompression kommt dabei die herausragende Rolle zu. Das Vorhandensein eines automatischen externen Defibrillators (AED) in öffentlichen Räumen erweitert dabei die Möglichkeiten des Ersthelfers.
