Zusammenfassung

Die Soziale Gerontologie begreift sich als wissenschaftlich fundierte und gleichzeitig anwendungsorientierte Teildisziplin der Gerontologie. Sie nimmt v. a. Fragen der sozialen Beziehungen im Alter, die gesellschaftliche Teilhabe älterer und alter Menschen sowie die Sicherung ihrer individuellen Bedürfnisse in den Blick. Selbstbestimmung und Autonomie sind dabei wichtige Wertorientierungen. Ganz zentral geht es um die Frage von Lebensqualität und um Lebenszufriedenheit unter dem Blickwinkel persönlicher Ressourcen und biografischer Prägungen sowie um die Bedingungen des individuellen Alterns, im Sinne einer differenziellen Gerontologie.
Vor dieser Hintergrundfolie wird in diesem Beitrag Kirsten Aner zunächst das Alter als soziale Konstruktion in den Blick nehmen. Ines Himmelsbach zeigt daran anschließend typische Lebensereignisse und Entwicklungsherausforderungen im Prozess des Alterns auf. Der Beitrag schließt mit einer theoretischen Fundierung. Cornelia Kricheldorff skizziert soziale Alternstheorien und leitet daraus mögliche Handlungsansätze und Interventionen ab.
