Zusammenfassung

Gesundheitskompetenz beschreibt das Wissen, die Motivation und die Fähigkeit von Individuen, Gesundheitsinformationen zu finden, zu verstehen, zu bewerten und anzuwenden. Sie hängt eng mit den Erwartungen und Anforderungen zusammen, die von der Umwelt an eine Person gestellt werden. Da große Teile der Bevölkerung Schwierigkeiten im Umgang mit Gesundheitsinformationen haben, sollten zielgruppenspezifische Maßnahmen zur Stärkung der Gesundheitskompetenz entwickelt werden. Dies betrifft gesunde Menschen in allen Lebensphasen, aber auch (chronisch) kranke und pflegebedürftige Personen. Dabei ist darauf zu achten, dass die Stärkung von Gesundheitskompetenz die Selbstbestimmung von Individuen respektiert und auf eine Hilfe zur Selbsthilfe abzielt. In der Entwicklung und Implementierung dieser Maßnahmen sind neben den Gesundheitswissenschaften die Gesundheitspolitik sowie die Sozial- und Bildungspolitik gefragt.
