Zusammenfassung

Wichtig für eine gesunde Ernährung sind nicht nur die richtige Verteilung und Qualität der Energie liefernden Makro-Nährstoffe, also Kohlenhydrate, Fett und Eiweiß, sondern auch die sogenannten Mikro-Nährstoffe. Die lebenswichtigen Mikro-Nährstoffe sind Vitamine, Mineralstoffe (z. B. Kalzium, Magnesium), Spurenelemente (z. B. Eisen, Zink, Selen), Pflanzenstoffe (z. B. Carotinoide, Flavonoide), essenzielle Fettsäuren (bes. Fischöle) und Aminosäuren. Bei vegetarischen und einseitigen Ernährungsformen (z. B. Low-Carb mit wenigen Kohlenhydraten, Paleo mit viel tierischem Eiweiß) kann eine Mangelversorgung mit Mikro-Nährstoffen auftreten und zu Krankheiten führen bzw. deren Entwicklung begünstigen. Die Einnahme einzelner Mikro-Nährstoffe als sogenannte Nahrungsergänzungsmittel ist nur dann sinnvoll, wenn dies durch die Ernährung nicht ausreichend erfolgen kann.
