Zusammenfassung

Die Malnutrition führt zu einer Reihe von Folgeerkrankungen, deren Prävalenz bei älteren Frauen zum Teil höher ist als bei Männern und in einer verstärkten Einschränkung der Mobilität und damit Lebensqualität resultiert. Die Entstehung der Malnutrition ist multifaktoriell, wobei sozioökonomische Ursachen wie Altersarmut und Vereinsamung bei Frauen häufiger zu beobachten sind als bei Männern. Die altersassoziierte Abnahme der Muskelmasse ist bei Frauen stärker ausgeprägt als bei Männern und damit das Risiko zur Entwicklung einer Sarkopenie und Frailty erhöht. Von einer sarkopenischen Adipositas sind Frauen häufiger betroffen. Die Fehlernährung erhöht das Risiko zur Entwicklung der Osteoporose; rund 80 % aller Osteoporosepatienten sind Frauen. Ein niedriger Vitamin-D-Serumspiegel korreliert bei älteren Frauen deutlicher als bei Männern mit einer schlechteren kognitiven Leistungsfähigkeit. Die Prävention, frühzeitige Diagnose und Therapie der Malnutrition ist von großer klinischer Bedeutung, um insbesondere bei Frauen die funktionellen Fähigkeiten und damit die Lebensqualität zu erhalten.
