Gegenseitige Beeinflussung von Insomnie im Alter und assoziierten Erkrankungen

Kognitive, behaviorale und neurobiologische Aspekte

Zusammenfassung

Die Prävalenz von Insomnien ist im Alter besonders hoch. Oft treten Ein- und Durchschlafstörungen sowie hieraus resultierende Beeinträchtigungen wie Stimmungsschwankungen oder Konzentrationsschwierigkeiten im Zusammenspiel mit anderen Erkrankungen wie beispielsweise Depressionen auf. Dieser Beitrag zielt darauf ab, die Rolle der Insomnie im Kontext häufiger Komorbiditäten im Alter zu beleuchten. Der Schwerpunkt liegt auf der Identifizierung von Verknüpfungspunkten zwischen Insomnien und damit assoziierten Erkrankungen auf neurobiologischer Ebene. Es werden jedoch auch mögliche Abgrenzungsmerkmale benannt und Ausführungen zu kognitiv-behavioralen Aspekten und integrativen Theorien wie der „Hyperarousal“-Theorie eingeflochten. Um einen Ausblick auf zukünftige Forschungsansätze zu ermöglichen, wird in einem weiteren Abschnitt die sog. UK Biobank als vielversprechende Ressource portraitiert. Abschließend finden eine kritische Einordung der vorangegangenen Ausführungen sowie die Ableitung praktischer Implikationen für die Behandlung von älteren Patienten mit Insomnie statt.
