Valuing volunteers
An estimated three million people volunteer in health and social care across England (Naylor et al 2013). There is huge potential for volunteer schemes to add quality and value across community, hospital, care home and palliative care settings. In this issue of Nursing Older People, McDonnell et al (page 28) evaluate a volunteer scheme in Sheffield that supports people with dementia on an acute orthopaedic ward.
