New role eludes specialty
News that the government has rejected the Francis report’s recommendation to create a role of older person’s nurse will be disappointing, but unsurprising, to many in the specialty (page 5). Instead, it has promised to ‘go further’ through targeted pre- and post-registration training to develop nurses’ skills in caring for older people, including those with complex needs and frailty, across all settings.
